Hi,

our G3's CPU (G3G124-24) is almost at 100% all the time...

This happens once the router module is used.

We have a lot of secondaries defined an I have disabled ICMP redirects already
on that interface, but it doesn't help.

I have also tried removing access-lists from the interfaces, to no avail.

There's not that much traffic going through that device (certainly << 1Gb/s)

This G3's router is the VRRP master of a group of 4 routers.

For the rest there is not much special about it, except that when I do a show
config, it starts showing, but then the connection is dropped...

Bye.

In fact all our G3's are at 20%-30% CPU even if nothing or not much is happening
on them. Wondering if that's normal.

Marki,

Did you also enable it on the router (config) as well as all VLANs?

Btw
This (bcmRX) is normally received traffic (could be broadcasts
etc.)but there are other things as well.
Could you send me your configuration- I prefer show support (
directly-> ***@enterasys.com) and I will review it?
One thing to look at is to run the
show igmpsnooping mfdb every few minutes and compare them and if you
see several of the addresses or the ports change within a short time
then the querier may not be set up correctly (This is where a
trace(wireshark is free) is good to collect on any open port.

I would capture a trace and see if something is flooding or you have
many broadcasts

Please feel free to open a case and ask the GTAC person to reach out
to me for assistance and make me co-owner of the ticket

Take care and good luck

In fact all our G3's are at 20%-30% CPU even if nothing or not much is happening
on them. Wondering if that's normal.

Hmm, I just tried to turn the IGMP stuff off again only to crash the switch (at
least the management part)

MRT: assertion (0) failed at line 1893 file
../../../../src/application/ip_mcast/vendor/igmp2/prefix.c

This seems to be fixed in 6.61.07.0010.

Therefore my question to you guys: since this G3 is still at 06.42.01.xxx (Nov
2010) and it needs to work with other G3s of the same version plus DFEs still at
version 06.12.03.xxx also in the network, to what version can I upgrade the G3
in order to be still compatible to the rest of the network, i.e. in order not to
break more than what will be improved.

What is the best practice concerning interoperability of different firmware
versions?
